the BSC

The saxophone is our national pride.

The Belgian Saxophone Choir is the embodiment of this pride. As a progressive saxophone ensemble, the Belgian Saxophone Choir aims, through both its artistic and educational components, to propagate our Belgian instrumental pride nationally and to take it beyond our own borders.

As a professional ensemble, the BSC performs both classical symphonic work, contemporary music and interdisciplinary work. Within these styles, the BSC collaborates with top artists and other ensembles. The BSC consists of twelve excellent musicians led by artistic coordinator Maarten Vergauwen and works with several renowned conductors.

Within the educational section we find our BSC Gateway Ensemble, the BSC Academy and BSC Saxophone Days. These projects are intrinsically linked to our way of performing. We therefore continue to work as an initiator within the Belgian and international saxophone landscape.

mission & vision

As a progressive saxophone ensemble, the Belgian Saxophone Choir aims, through both its artistic and educational components, to propagate our Belgian instrumental pride nationally and beyond our own borders. Our excellent musicians bring classical and contemporary repertoire to both familiar and experienced, as well as new audiences. The BSC aspires to deliver breathtaking projects in an innovative interdisciplinary and inclusive way.

The Belgian Saxophone Choir believes in the prominent role that sociocultural organisations can play in society. Where as a performer we strive for artistic excellence and audience expansion, our organisation contributes to society on a day-to-day basis on social, economic and educational levels. By investing in collaborations with young entrepreneurs, offering opportunities to emerging talents and focusing on talent development, the BSC consciously contributes to the future of a broader biotope.

The Belgian Saxophone Choir aims to create a strengthened and unified national saxophone scene. In doing so, the Belgian Saxophone Choir and the BSC Gateway Ensemble play their part as a national showcase for Belgian classical and contemporary saxophone, both by working with top soloists, ensembles and teachers and by presenting their own projects with original content.

The Belgian Saxophone Choir believes strongly in innovation and always aims to give a voice to young generations. It wants to give young promising musicians the chance to develop optimally in a professional context. It also wants to express its artistic expertise through innovative and non-conformist concepts.

The Belgian Saxophone Choir aims with its ensembles at artistic projects with classical and contemporary music at the highest possible level, focusing on accessible and cross-domain concepts for the general and a niche audience. In doing so, the ensemble aims to promote awareness of our instrument in wider society through musical, interdisciplinary and inclusive projects.

The Belgian Saxophone Choir believes strongly in its core values: quality, integrity, diversity, innovation and connectivity. These values are always the starting point when creating and performing new projects.
